Tamrat was born in Shoa, Ethiopia on December 1, 1974. At the age of 10 he became active in running for his middle school. This gave him an opportunity to participate in various local racing championships, which he won most. He continued to develop his running talent after middle school. By the age of 20, the Ethiopian Athletics Federation (National Team) offered him a position on their team. He immediately started training with well known professional Ethiopian athletes. After practicing with the national team his running ability improved. In 1994, he attended “Abebe Bikila International Marathon” which he placed 8th. Shortly thereafter, he ran the Hoffa International Marathon placing 4th overall in 2:12. As an Athlete, he has traveled to Italy, China, and United Arab Emirates racing against the top runner in the world.

  • 2002 - Wofu Marathon Japan 2:12 4th Overall
